Heating Maintenance You Want To Do And You Want Professionals To Do

You never want to forget to take care of your home's heating system. If you do neglect it, then you won't like the way it responds, which will be by needing small repairs if you're lucky but could also be by needing a full replacement. There are plenty of things you want to do to care for your HVAC system and they are all simple. Then there are other things that you want to leave for a maintenance and repair technician. Here are examples of maintenance issues you want to tend to and ones that you want to have a technician come out to take care of.

Maintenance issues you want to take care of yourself

Filter

Each home can be different when it comes to exactly how long you can leave in the same filter. The more impurities you have in the house for the filter to filter out of the air, the less time that can go by before you need to put in a new filter. So, if you have smokers and pets in the house, then plan on changing it more often. One thing a lot of people don't realize is that having pet birds in the house can really cause the filter to need to be checked regularly because birds can shed a lot of dander, as well as dust from their seeds.

Outside housing unit

The outside housing unit that holds the condenser needs to remain level and the area around it should be cleaned, mowed, and weeded regularly. If you see that it is sinking, then have a concrete pad installed under it. Things like rain and periods of dryness can cause shifts without that pad in place.

Maintenance issues you want professionals to tend to

Annual cleanings, servicing, and inspections

You need to have someone come out to inspect, clean, and service the system once a year if you are going to make sure that you are abiding by the requirements of most warranties. Also, this needs to be done to make sure that the system is ready to keep your home nice and warm during wintertime.

Cleaning ducts

If your ducts are dirty, then the things in them can blow right out and be breathed in by everyone inside the house. The house can also start to smell bad as well. Allergies can start to act up a lot more when they are dirty. When the time comes, you want to have them cleaned by a professional.
