3 Things You Can Do To Keep Your House Cool

Keeping your  house cool in the summer months can be hard for some people. They may want to keep their house at a lower temperature, but when it comes down to it, they don't feel like they can afford the energy bill to crank the AC. Luckily, there are some simple things that you can do to keep your house cool without throwing money into it. Here are some simple things:

1. Ceiling Fans To Keep Air Flow

Ceiling fans are a great way to keep the air flowing through the house to keep the temperature down. Stagnant air is going to feel hot and muggy, but if you can keep the air moving, even if it isn't cooler air, it will still help to cool down the people in the house. This is why ceiling fans are such a great investment. It costs pennies to run a ceiling fan, so you don't have to worry about it running all day.

If you don't have a ceiling fan in the room, consider getting a free-standing fan, even just a small one. Having that run will make everyone feel cooler.

2. Protect The House From The Sun

Another important thing is to make sure you are doing is keeping the house protected from the sun. Just as the suns UV rays will heat the outdoors, it will also heat your house. You might think that the windows stop the heat from entering the house, but that is not the case. Instead, even having the light in the house will increase the temperature, which will make your AC work extra hard to cool it down.

If you can close the blinds or drapes during the hottest part of the day, you can keep your house from over heating. You should keep the blinds and drapes closed whenever you aren't home to keep the house cool, and even if you are cool, close them during the afternoon.

3. Don't Cook In The House

Lastly, you should avoid cooking in the house if possible, during the summer months. This is because every time you turn on the oven it causes the temperature in the house to rise, making your AC work harder to keep the house comfortable. If you do have to cook, try doing in the mornings when you can open the windows to let out air. Otherwise grill outside or eat foods that don't require cooking in the oven.

By doing these simple things you can avoid overpaying on your AC while still keeping your house cool. Contact an HVAC service for more information and assistance.
